Jim Lawrence
Jim was born in 1934 in Emmit,
Texas, and later moved to New Orleans.
He played trombone in a
school band, and was also in a Dixieland band
playing for local
dances. Later Jim learned to play
the string bass, and
decided that would be his
favorite instrument.
After high school Jim’s
family moved to Waco, Texas and Jim attended
college where he was
introduced to a band leader whose group needed
a bass player. Jim got the job and for the next 10
years traveled the
country meeting and
working with famous people.
Jim has played the guitar,
trombone, string bass, electric bass, piano/organ,
baritone sax, banjo, and
mandolin in professional settings throughout his
musical career. He is also a good vocalist and has
recorded several CD’s.
Jim plays a plectrum banjo
with the Dallas band, and has several solo songs
in the group’s repertoire.
